If there’s one thing we value more than a good mix or a provocative LOL CAT here at the MM!!! it would be initiative. Initiative makes the world go round. If Ben Franklin hadn’t flown that kite and electrocuted himself where would we be? Certainly without electricity, computers, the internets or lol cats. See what I mean? Dark Ages.
So when my homegirl SARA told me that we should include TRACKLISTINGS to the mixes we feature on the blog I nodded and smiled and promptly forgot. Thankfully, she didn’t and when it came time for her to give me her mix you can be sure that a tracklist was attached. Not only that, she gave me two mixes. Uh, huh… initiative.
Sara has proven to have loads of the stuff as can be witnessed in the now infamous ADICOLOR viral campaign which she produced and curated. Creative enabler, day crew founder and my own personal psycho-therapist, Sara also has great taste in music to boot. Take some initiative and click the link below to see for yourself.

i’m having a bad week. i sleep on a bare mattress because i can’t motivate to put sheets on my bed. actually, they’re on my bed, but they’re balled up in the corner with my laundry. maybe i need to get laid. how much does that cost? i should ask my girlfriend.
i’m lying about having a girlfriend. i might be depressed. maybe i should get married. can i find a girl who doesn’t care that i might be depressed and sleep without sheets? maybe i’ll woo her with this mixtape from the Beta Band. maybe.

Not sure what it is about my India obsession right now but I’m riding it. I’m a sucker for a good curry. Damn, is that racist?
FROSTY of the Dublab Soundsystem is hearing me though and luckily we’re just in time to shamelessly plug the DUBLAB PROTON DRIVE fund raiser. You gotta give it up to a crew that promotes positivity and has never sold out in 10 years of operation. I’m sure the opportunity to cash in has been there but luckily for us these cats have integrity; a rare thing these days.
But I digress. Indian music. Love it and so does Frosty. The interesting thing about this mix is that all the records were compiled when Frosty was asked to smuggle wigs into India for the movie The Darjeeling Limited. Yeah. Not only did homie get to go digging for records in India but he also got to tell people that he was there smuggling hairpieces. These are the lives my friends lead. Player.

Not quite sure what it is about Philadelphia but some of our closest friends are Philly transplants. I mean what’s not to like? Philly is home to the cheesesteak, Rocky Balboa and a professional basketball team whose coach is named MO CHEEKS. Nahwhatimsayin?
The Illadelph is also has one of the most unique and flourishing musical scenes in the States too. From John Coltrane to the Roots, Philly has spawned some of the most original musical talent that America has to offer. Among them is KING BRITT. Probably best known in circles as a frequent collaborator and producer of DIGABLE PLANETS, King Britt is a driving force behind the neo-soul movement and is constantly pushing limits with his distinct taste and sound.
This is a mix that he did for the Urban Landscapes Radioshow. It’s pretty much unlike anything we’ve posted here at MM!!! with a sophisticated blend of souljazzfunk that could only come out of The City of Brotherly Love. We love you right back Philly. Yours truly, mixtapemixtape!!!

I guess somewhere along the line I signed up for this mixtape website’s mailing list. I don’t usually do such things as I prefer to search out web stuff on my own. It makes me feel like more of a man.
Which is a pretty stupid stance to take because these site’s got gems. Case in point: WALE. Never heard of the dude from DC but from the minute I started listening to this mix I was a believer. Laid back flow, give a rat’s ass mentality and beats by Mark Ronson. Throw in a remix of D.A.N.C.E. and that’s it, game over man.
I could keep going on but hell, let’s get to the mix already.

It’s MAY DAY today in England which means crazy stuff is going down. May Day celebrates the first day of summer and the one time I was there for the holiday I witnessed a group of girls parading a paper mache cow and throwing flowers at it’s feet. At six in the morning. That is not a joke.
In honor of this great holiday we’re bumping a heated mix sent to us from the MOTHERLAND. The NO FAKIN DJ’S are a crew out of Liverpool who, by the sounds of it, put on a show like no other.
And their mix does not disappoint. A deft blend of hip-hop with love from PETER GABRIEL, DOUG E FRESH and BOB MARLEY this is one of the tightest mixes we’ve been sent yet. Within the first 30 seconds my roommate’s cat was bobbing her head with the music. She never does that. RESPECT!!!

I guess a lot people weren’t feeling THE DARJEELING LIMITED. Look, I feel you. It’s not a perfect movie. The third act falls apart and at times it feels contrived and maybe even forced. But it’s got heart and it’s got feeling and those things go a long long way around here.
And it’s soundtrack has been in heavy rotation here at the MM!!! senior offices. It may not technically be a mixtape but Wes Anderson’s soundtracks have a diversity and fluidity that we find in all our favorite mixes. Plus, the music is dusty and hyped, so cut us some slack. You can stick to the rules on your own blog.
Here’s some selects from the DL soundtrack for you all- put together in mix form because we love you. And always will.
