So GZA performed 36 CHAMBERS in it’s entirety, live at the El Rey in Los Angeles over the weekend. Sounds really cool except I wasn’t there. THE KONE went, but of course homey didn’t get me a ticket. Buster.
But wait- don’t cry for me blogosphere. I spent the weekend at a Mansion Ranch in Santa Barbara. We’re talking private lakes here. We’re talking private lakes stocked with 10 kinds of fish for your fishing pleasure. More on that later.
By all accounts GZA ripped it with Method Man and Killah Priest in support. Our homies at techb3.com has some pics and video for y’all (as well as taking care of all your fixed gear needs). All of this just to post a little heard, jem of a live session featuring WUTANG with part-time backing band EL MICHAELS AFFAIR. If you haven’t heard their version of C.R.E.A.M. yet then you been slippin.

Two things about this stick out to me. First, PTRX, no matter what, even if he pisses on my floor like he has been known to do, always has my back. And two…I’m feelin DJ IAN HEAD’s vibe. Homie got me with the first track (Tribe’s Excursions) and held me to the last track (sic ukulele remix). Check the fresh Clipse remix thrown in for good measure. Ian Head is not playing.

ECHO BASE, aka mixtapemixtape!!! senior offices, was invaded by pigeons yesterday. No joke. They’ve been living in the walls of the crib for some time but they finally made their triumphant push past our defenses and into the office.
Luckily for me, Fern (my roommate) and Wu-Tang (the cat) were quick to react to the situation. Well, Wu-Tang was quick. It took Fern a little while to snatch up his pigeon but he did so with a BED, BATH AND BEYOND bag wrapped around his hand. You gotta be careful of that bird flu.
This is a mix Fern made. He’s been bugging me to post it for a second but now that he hath saved my ass from the pigeon assassins sent here to kill us I really have no choice. Fernando is a talented writer, photographer and cinematographer (not to mention mashup artist). You’ve probably seen his work on commercials for these things they call IPHONES.
This is also good because I didn’t want to listen to a lot of hip hop today. Peep the intro music from MIRANDA JULY’S movie. My man is sic.

Thirty-five years ago the mothership landed and gave us the likes of GEORGE CLINTON, BOOTSY COLLINS and MACEO PARKER in an attempt to bridge earth with the music of the intergalatic realms. They were successful but perhaps their music and message were too advanced for us humans. Funk and love soon went out of vogue.
Luckliy for us the mothership left one of her own here to carry on the message. Enter DAM FUNK, wizard of Leimert park, captain of the Funkmosphere team and disciple of all things BOOGIE FUNK.
This mix is a complete blast off into the boogie funk world. Smooth like George Gervin, yet funky like AC Green’s jericurl, this mix will set the mood right every time. It’s like an alien love machine that’s stuck on super sexy mode. Resistence is futile. ALIEN…LOVE…MACHINE…

You know I got heads in the South Africa.
Funny thing is, they’re just like my friends back home. DJ RAIKO is that dude everyone has in their crew that is laughing uncontrollably one second and the next second is in the middle of a fist fight. And we’re talking South African style, ya heard? STOMP YOU IN THE FACE (just like home).
When Raiko’s not stomping fools he’s pretty much smoking blunts and doing the thing in Johannesburg, SA: aka JOSI or the JHB. People say that Josi is one of the craziest and most violent cities on the planet. To me it kind of looked like the Valley. But whatever, they got dope music and good people (just like home).
