Everyone knows about JURASSIC 5, right? Well, if you don’t, you should.
Perhaps the last great GROUP in hip-hop (minus the CLIPSE), before BRANDING became so important and the marketing of the MC became more important than rocking a show, Jurassic 5 was known for their classic beats and timeless harmonies. Live, their show was second to none, as they played off each others verses and energy and had two of the most show stopping DJ’s backing them up.
Which brings me to my point. While everyone knows about Cut Chemist, and obviously the man is owed his due, the slept on component of the whole J5 concoction is DJ NUMARK. Some might be afraid to say it but we’re not. He was the foundation. The Laurel to Cut’s Hardy. The Kareem to Cut’s Magic. The STRINGER BELL to Cut’s AVON BARKSDALE (Season 1). The rhythym to the melody.
