And definitely don’t eat anything.

I’m a paranoid person to begin with but that coupled with this whole economic collapse thing and the information I’m taking away from my current reading material, I am on the verge of a serious breakdown.

Did you know that American Bio-Engineers have figured out how to produce a type of corn that secretes it’s own pesticides.  SECRETES IT’S OWN PESTICIDES.  I’m pretty sure that’s not a healthy thing for a plant to be doing let alone a plant that is being fed to the cows and chickens that the vast majority of the AMERICAN POPULATION is eating.  And people wonder why the U.S. is such mega-fat-town city.

Sorry to break this to you on a Monday but it’s been weighing on my mind.  I figured the best musical accompaniment is this mix of DABRYE on the BBC’s MARY ANN HOBBS show.  Against this apocalyptic background of pesticide secreting plants and the ring of fire currently engulfing Los Angeles a little GLITCH seems just about right.

October 3, 2008

sami koivikko is a finland based minimalist techno deejay/ producer on spectral sound.  spectral sound is the label owned and operated by matthew dear (aka audion).  audion (aka matthew dear) is the man behind asa breed.  asa breed was a good album, you liked it.  you will like this too even though it sounds nothing like asa breed.  techno resurgence means the death of skinny jeans and the return of jnco jeans.  jnco jeans will get you laid.  you heard it here first.

NappyTime Mix

SShhh...

Submitted for your audiotorial delight. A soothing mix from Sir Richard Kenworthy aka Kenny.  I rather charming chap and dear friend from the UK who creates some great mixes.  Kenny is one of the brilliant minds in a collective known as SHYNOLA.  Responsible for some amazing Music Videos for Beck, QOTSA, Radiohead. Enjoy this melancholic treat and be sure not to operate any heavy machinery whilst listening to it.

the return of YOU (MPSU #13)

September 26, 2008

So I haven’t done this in a while, not because the mixes haven’t been coming in but mostly because I’ve been crazed and lazy. Things are about to change. Tomorrow.

But last week I got a mix sent to me with just this in the body of the email:

“hello people. this is the tracklist and link. really hope you like it!! theQ”

And then a real nice tracklist and a link to a mix. No, bio, no myspace, no nothing.

Well I tracked you down ZEBEDEE…and thank you for the mix. Homie is one-half of the “LOST VOICES” production team out of the UK who are putting out some real nice independent music (peep LEMONADE AND WINE) and this mix is unlike anything that anyone has sent us so far.

And that my friend is a very good thing.

where’s tupac at?

September 11, 2008

Coming out of the RATATAT show last night there was dude selling bootleg Ratatat shirts alongside bootleg TUPAC shirts. “Tupac performed too!?!?!?” a girl wondered as she walked by. Unfortunately he did not. Which isn’t to say he wasn’t in the building.

Wherever Tupac was Ratatat could have used him. Let me get this straight. I’m a fan of Ratatat (and their taste in music videos), and maybe I caught them on an off night, but their live show left me a little hollow. Their music is infectious, yes, has a unique sound, yes, and definitely makes you want to dance. But somehow this got lost in translation.

I really dig their mixtapes, so I’m wondering what if they did have an MC? Is that too easy? Or maybe a live drummer? Just planting seeds here.

Whatever. It’s not like their music is gonna fall out of rotation over here but I’d probably only see them again live if Tupac was actually on the bill. Or if they had chainmail clad Valkyries shooting fire out of their nipples on stage. Can we make either of these things happen?

i don’t bit torrent, but my friend does

August 12, 2008

i don’t bit torrent myself because it’s stealing, but a friend of mine in boston does it and gave me this album. tambourine dream offers some super nice remixes of some unlikely tracks. are you gay for joanna newsom? i am. try the remix of The Book of Right On. i was never a big fan of bruce springsten, but this remix of I’m On Fire won me over. this album isn’t genius, but it’s definitely worth a listen. don’t quit on it until you reach Oh Yoko!!
