LISTEN!!! - CAN’T HELP IT MIXED BY DJ SERGE (or some shit)

Remember when they made movies? That was tight. Like real motion pictures by guys name Polanski, Coppola and Kubrick. Guys who sounded cool and made cooler movies.
Now you have stuff made by guys name Spielberg and Lucas. Nerds who refused to grow up and are still making the same movies they made 20 years ago…and ruining my childhood in the process. Thanks for that INDIANA JONES/X-FILES spinoff guys! Killing me.
Anyways, celebrate a time long past, a time of intelligent films and intelligent film soundtracks, with the PLAY JAZZ LOUD Picture Show Vol. 2. A bit more outside than the first, so this should be soul satisfying for even the most astute cinemaphile. Yeah, we got the jamz.

The biggest compliment to us here at MM!!! is to feature a mix and to not get sued for it. Not that we have any money anyway but the lack of hate mail and court orders makes us think we could be doing something right around here.
So when PAPITO hit us up with another installment of his COLOMBIA MIX SERIES we were downright giddy to bump it in the office and post it on the site. It’s the first time that someone has sent us a mix after randomly featuring them on the site but we’re hoping that it is a trend that continues. HELP US MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Hi guyz,
You doing a good job with your blog.
I’m French, I live in Lyon & every month I do a mix call Chylorama, a musical journey through the styles and the times, 100 % vinyl .
This the 4# , you can find another in myspace.com/djchylo
Listen if you are the time and I hope
Enjoy
ED. NOTE - Mix reminds me of cognac and smoking jackets. Never a bad combination. Perfect for that sunday afternoon session.
Thanks for the props Lionel L, you are a man of substance and leisure. And quality use of emoticons!

So I haven’t done this in a while, not because the mixes haven’t been coming in but mostly because I’ve been crazed and lazy. Things are about to change. Tomorrow.
But last week I got a mix sent to me with just this in the body of the email:
“hello people. this is the tracklist and link. really hope you like it!! theQ”
And then a real nice tracklist and a link to a mix. No, bio, no myspace, no nothing.
Well I tracked you down ZEBEDEE…and thank you for the mix. Homie is one-half of the “LOST VOICES” production team out of the UK who are putting out some real nice independent music (peep LEMONADE AND WINE) and this mix is unlike anything that anyone has sent us so far.
And that my friend is a very good thing.

My favorite part of doing this blog is putting up mixes sent into us by people I’ve just randomly met in my life. It’s awesome to be breaking world premier DJ mixes and sharing music with you by the next producer. But the thing that got me started on this blog is the chance of finding out what kind of music is inspiring you- the people who inspire me.
This mix comes from a dude that I met a couple weeks ago at dinner. It’s cool how you might not know anything about a person but as soon as you start talking about Bennie Maupin and spiritual jazz you know exactly where he stands…and I’m right there with him.
I only met GREG SHAPIRO the one time but he told me he used to run the AVANT-GARDE JAZZ radio show at Northwestern University so I was stoked to get a mix from him. I guess I was expecting jazz but Greg artfully went the other way with it and sent me a mix that spans ARETHA to SERGE to ZAPPA.
NOTE TO SELF: expectations are boring. Blow them up into a million pieces.

Continuing last week’s theme of Brit mixes, here’s one by the F*CHAMPS crew from Spain via London. Coincidentally, they sent* it to us while our main man of MM!!! was up in the UK partying in mead-halls across the English countryside.
Not to be confused with the instru-metal band from SF, Puto Champs aka Fucking Champs hail from Galicia. I once wrote a Spanish report on the Galego language and was intrigued; it’s similar to Portuguese and has retained some elements of Latin, which (allow me to nerd out) I studied in high school. I’m down for Spanish regional nationalism and I’m also down for this mix. From spaced out breaks to jazzy interludes and even a lil’ grime, it’s got soul, a smooth ride all the way.
*This MPSU is particularly noteworthy as it’s the first we received through our new Myspace page…yup, now you can add us as a friend and leave a witty comment or blingee or random youtube clip, we’re into those. We already found some of our previous DJs and mix makers on there, so if you’re a loyal reader or we’ve written about your mix then hit us up.
¡Puro Galiza!

So the idea was to post UK mixes this week seeing as I am in THE MOTHERCOUNTRY. I have been hipped to new mixes and DJ’s at a staggering rate while abroad, so I hope to keep up with the blog and maintain my fastidious drinking regimen while on holiday.
I have new mixes from prominent British DJ’s but I’m gonna start off the UK series with a mix that was sent in to us by a bedroom DJ out of MILTON KEYNES. I mean, who wants to hear mixes from DJ’s you’ve already heard about anyway? That would be boring. So, we give you a mix by DJ KLUTTER.
If things were based on taste and an an ear for mixing Klutter would have been on the MAINSTAGE long ago and while I don’t listen to dance music too much his mix has found a regular place in the rotation of my Ipod. This is good good stuff from a guy happy to play records. These are my peoples.

Honestly, it’s been a good run for us so far around here at MM!!!. We are approaching 25,000 hits in five months of existence. People are linking to us in languages we hardly recognize. And we’re blessed that people from all over the world think enough of us to share their mixes here. And we’ve found the time to live the life of an international baller. Kinda tight.
One of the latest mixes to come to us is from BRUSSLES, BELGIUM via DJ SCLIFFE. Honestly, I was a pretty big fan even before listening to the mix. I like that he checked in with us several times to make sure we got the mix, something which we find flattering.
But thank you Scliffe for keeping up with us cuz your mix is the cutty. And we knew the instant we heard the second track: an exclusive Anti-Pop Consortium remix. Anti-Pop is a slept on favorite around here at MM!!! and a sign that Scliffe was a man of exquisite taste. And the mix continued to steam roll us from there. Holler at us anytime you want Scliffe.

I’m not sure what I’m here to do but to learn about stuff. It’s pretty much what keeps me going. This girl could learn some new stuff. In a bad way.
So I’m pretty stoked to learn about VESS OSSMAN, old school banjo player and the most recorded artist of his time. Don’t know too much more than that. Man plays a mean fiddle.
This is a mix that my man Lucas Gonze sent me. Maybe not for everyone but definitely for my heads who like to learn about new/old stuff. Hoping that that’s you.
