It’s been 12 days of non-stop purging and I’m still cleaning out my crib. I guess that’s what happens when you pack rat everything away for seven years; it’s been like the SUPERBOWL of spring cleaning.

I did unearth another mix among the piles and piles of wackness that I have seemingly accumulated during the last several years. This SUPER GREASY FUNK MIX was recorded live at the now defunct Chicken Shack club in Brighton, England and only a handful of CD’s were ever pressed. This is around 2001, which is just about the last time I cleaned up my crib. See you in another seven years.

This rare live recording features mixes from QUANTIC, NOSTALGIA77 and NATURAL SELF; pretty much the DREAM TEAM of South Coast Funk and Soul producers in England. Get your dancing shoes out because things are about to get real heavy, real quick.  CERTIFIED SUMMER HEAT.

GOOGLE is rad. Last year, I won a free pair of tickets to an RJD2 show from Flavorpill LA’s website and all I had to do was answer the question, “What is the ‘Third Hand’ RJD2 is referring to in the title of his new CD?” So you know, I Googled it and instantly found out that it was the listener’s hand; the hand picking up the CD. RJD2 here I come.

This is the first of three times I won tix from Flavorpill. The next time was tix for some band called The Mother’s Hips. Which brings me to this pop culture question: Which 3 TV moms have the BEST HIPS? Answer: PEG BUNDY, PEG BUNDY AND PEG BUNDY.

Show at Henry Fonda was off the hook. RJD2’s one of the great masters of sampling but he had his live band playing his songs w/him and the set peaked w/my THIRD FEET bumping to Ghostwriter. Hopefully your third ears enjoy this RJD2 mix from ‘03 just as much.

Here at MM!!! we are firm believers that you get out of the universe whatever you put into it. Radiate love and love comes back. Maybe not in the form that you want or expect but definitely in some way your energy is reciprocated.

Ok, so we’re HIPPIES…busted. But you can only experience things so many times before recognizing the pattern. You can either ignore it or you can embrace it. And around here we enjoy hugs. Especially naked ones. With hot chicks. And PEANUT BUTTER.

So it’s funny that I really wanted to listen to an ambient mix and check out one of the latest mixes sent to us and it is exactly what I’m looking for. DJINTI is feeling our vibe and sent us the antidote to our chill-out cravings. A mix inspired by “fuzzy robots, barbecues and beaches”, Djinti’s latest has restored our faith in the universe and perhaps it will do the same for you.  Feel me.

So I’ve been going through a bunch of boxes that I’ve been carrying around with me for the last seven years. Seven years of acquired media; old burnt CD’s, VHS dubs and media DVD’s. The kind of stuff anyone who has been in the media game tends to have. And you know what? It’s disgusting. Where the hell is all this stuff gonna go? Can I build some sort of CD BOMB SHELTER? Let’s draw up some plans.

The trade off is that I have found some good stuff too. Old letters from mentors and girlfriends. Mementos from work that I have done in the past. And of course: mixes.

This is a mix I found among the clutter. Put out by PORTISHEAD as part of a rare promo pack in 1997, this is one of my all time favorite mixes which is something I do not say lightly. Starts with THE DAMAJA and continues through to THE BEATLES. Classic ish worth wading through the waste for. But honestly, we need to figure this out.

It’s no secret that we’re pretty much ANTI-SERATO around here at MM!!!. We’re something of DJ snobs; record purists some might say. I guess that’s what happens when you work at a record store for a chunk of your life. You become an elitist. Ameoba employees: case in point.

But maybe we’re slowly coming around. The Kone broke down a few months ago and bought THE BOX and now he can ride his bike to gigs. That’s serious upside. And he still rocks. So there.

Also, there is a ton of good music/remixes coming out that has Serato written all over it. Mashups are being taken to the next level and in the process making me a believer. An album of JAY Z over FELA beats? A wet dream a couple years ago. Today…reality. Get ready to have your wig blown.

If there’s one thing we value more than a good mix or a provocative LOL CAT here at the MM!!! it would be initiative. Initiative makes the world go round. If Ben Franklin hadn’t flown that kite and electrocuted himself where would we be? Certainly without electricity, computers, the internets or lol cats. See what I mean? Dark Ages.

So when my homegirl SARA told me that we should include TRACKLISTINGS to the mixes we feature on the blog I nodded and smiled and promptly forgot. Thankfully, she didn’t and when it came time for her to give me her mix you can be sure that a tracklist was attached. Not only that, she gave me two mixes. Uh, huh… initiative.
